Actual AngerBlog also has a conspiracy that the mid-engine Vette will actually be a Cadillac which makes a lot of sense.

That makes alot more sense than a MR Vette. Since the rumors started, all I could think about was how this would eat current Corvette sales unless the price was through the roof and it was a halo car.

A prototype clearly exists but it still isn’t a promise any production model. They could be comparing it with the normal layout to see if it would be worthwhile to choose instead.
BMW’s development guys have admitted that they have been building a lot of prototype V6 engines for comparison but so far the inline version has always been the better choice.
But since this isn’t he first time when the prototype has been spotted it might mean that it survived the first comparison round and the production models is now one step more likely to happen.
I’m not bothered about the engine staying in in front or moving behind the driver. It’s probably a fast car in any case but it doesn’t belong to “my list”.

I think the price delta between C7 and C8 would be such that it wouldn’t eat too much into the front engine sales. Getting into a lower model Vette is still affordable. I presume something mid-engine wouldn’t start until north of $100,000

It seems the Ford planners have vision. The Lincoln planners seem lost in the woods.

The Holden UTE based mule would be the ‘let’s see where this goes’ test bed.
This car has moved to Corvette themed styling. That’s a whole order of magnitude in development. This is a pre-production mule for sure, but I would very much expect to see this car on a turn table in January

It’s funny, in the tit for tat world that is Ford and GM, you would have thought GM had to play the mid-engine card a long time ago. And no, the shite box that was the Fiero does not count.

I agree, but that looks like some very Vette-ish styling.
I’ve been preaching the Corvette brand for a while now. Mid-mount C8 starts at $100K, front-mount C7 soldiers on starting at $50K and a small front turbo-4 about the size of Soltice. Then the product planners can do the whole ‘lifetime of buyers’ thing that makes them all gooey inside.
I see a Cadillac future for sure. But I also see a Corvette future. And GM is just the company to bastardize the chassis in that exact fashion. If the C7 runs its course and becomes the last branch on the front engine tree of life, Chevy can steer buyers to the ZL-1. I struggle to understand why that car exists given it performance targets straddling Corvette in every measure. Moving to an all-mid Corvette future would open up the gap Z28 and ZL-1 need to thrive.
Back to Cadillac for one second, they would also use it to ween US buyers off the LS. The mid Corvette may come with LS for a long time to come, but I could see a mid-Cadillac having a turbo six or very small twin cam turbo eight.

Fiero is a sad story that should have played out so differently.
Hell, the mid-engine V4 Mustang of 1962 could have reshaped American history.

I kind of think the Vette stopped being an affordable poor-man’s sports car around the end of C5. You can get into a Cayman for less.

Yes and no. It’s not bad price wise. Corvette is 66% higher than the average new car sale. Plus remember who the buyer of a Corvette is. Older than average, whiter than average, maler than average. Plus likely more Murican than average. Most of those guys won’t buy a German car at any price. Plus power and driving wise, the Vette is a hellava deal.

Inquiring minds can differ, but I see the leading edge of the quarter panel fully above the height of the wing mirror. Plus the deck lid height us 5-6 inches higher than the C7. What’s all that volume in there for?
Plus on a C7, the front wheel is fully 2 feet in front of the door. This mule’s front wheel is nearly touching the door.
